Most Equipment gives indications of failure before it fails…if you are listening

Most Equipment gives indications of failure before it fails – if you are listening

Adverse weather events, unpredictable demands on resources and price pressures from regulators and consumers create a compelling case for creating efficiencies and “doing more with less” by monitoring power distribution assets accurately.

That's where MegaWatch comes in!

Who we are

Our people are Uber Group alumni. Uber Group owns and operates its own rural wireless network in remote areas of Northland and collectively we have 100+ years of experience in solving problems before they happen.

The rugged terrain and extreme weather conditions in which we operate made remote monitoring a necessity for Uber.

We now bring our highly integrated monitoring and analysis solutions to the power distribution sector.

How it works

Sensors connected to Uber's highly resilient network measure

Dips and swells

Flicker

Interruptions

Voltage and current

Rapid voltage change

Change in pole position over time

They pinpoint fault locations so resources are allocated accurately on adverse weather.

Data is available in real time, and our data analytics platform allows for real time response to critical events.

Preemptive insights:

  • Loading history for transformer upgrade sizing and priority
  • Voltage range and durations at each level for transformer tap adjustments
  • Voltage ranges for PV build requests
  • Power factor monitoring for potential PFC implementation or ICP charges
  • Long term trending of parameters to assess equipment health
  • Short excursions of current or voltage identified to help assess lifespan of active equipment
  • Sudden changes in voltage, harmonics or current etc - less critical, not outage-causing but need investigation

Reactive insights:

  • Enhancing H&S with confirmation of line status during line work
  • Voltage outage alerts - current history leading up to an event, network hierarchy to confirm if triggered downstream or upstream
  • Accuracy - specific spurs identified for current spike alerts leading to voltage outages
  • Frequency & voltage excursions triggered by consumer changes eg consumer PV arrays
  • Custom alerts available
  • Emphasis on continuous improvement

MegaWatch manages multiple vendors and monitoring services into a single monitoring tool

Pricing

MegaWatch can be provided as a subscription model. Each monitored area consists of a transformer and downstream components. The service can be billed either per MWh delivered or ICPs serviced.

Specific pricing is based on a sizing consultation.

Based on the number of transformers, reclosures and branch points we form a strategy, timeline and cost estimate.
